The Life/form® Pericardiocentesis Simulator is specifically designed for training in the skills necessary for the proper execution of this complex procedure, as well as for the ongoing care of the pleural tube and treatment of pre-hospital chest trauma.
The trainer features a site for creating a tense pneumothorax under pressure and a site for the surgical placement of a functional chest tube. The color, volume, and viscosity of the fluid can be controlled by the instructor.
The mannequin can be used with any commercially available closed drainage device with water seal. Pericardiocentesis can be performed in the left subclavian space and in the left fifth intercostal space. Accurate needle placement will allow for fluid extraction from the simulated pericardium.
