The Life/form® Birthing Station Simulator is designed for demonstrating and practicing the palpation of the internal birth canal. The model visually illustrates the relative position of the fetal head and the ischial spines of the mother's pelvic bones during labor.
The simulator emphasizes the ischial spines, which have significant obstetric importance. The line that runs between the ischial spines typically represents the shortest diameter of the pelvic cavity. The ischial spines are easily palpable during a vaginal examination and serve as important landmarks for determining the level to which the presenting part of the fetus has descended into the pelvis.
The simulator is equipped with a fetal head that can be fixed in three positions:
- Station -2 (Minus Two Station):** the fetal head is located above the ischial spines
- Station 0 (Zero Station):** the fetal head is at the level of the ischial spines
- Station +3 (Plus Three Station):** the fetal head is below the ischial spines, ready to enter the birth canal
The set includes:
- Simulator
- Instruction manual
- Rigid transport case
